Heavy flavor production in high energy proton-nucleus (pA) collision is a unique opportunity to investigate the so-called parton saturation in hadrons. The saturation effect is considered as Cold Nuclear Matter effect which is an important baseline for quantifying the quark-gluon plasma formation in heavy ion collisions. In this talk, I will give a recent progress in heavy flavor production in pA collisions at RHIC and the LHC within the saturation/Color-Glass-Condensate (CGC) framework.
