Discoveries of topological states like the topological insulator refresh our understanding of physics and materials since the beginning of 2000s. Topological materials have been extensively explored for exotic surface states in recent years. The Berry phase presents the band topology and leads to anomalous transport phenomena, for example, the anomalous Hall effect. This talk will focus on the most recent progress in magnetic topological materials and discuss  their unusual transport properties driven by the topology.

Binghai Yan(颜丙海) is an Associate Professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. He is a theoretical physicist and currently interested in topological materials.  After completing his PhD at Tsinghua University in 2008, he worked as a postdoc at Bremen University and later at Stanford University. He was a group leader in the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics during 2012-2016 and started his current position at Weizmann Institute since 2017. He was awarded the ARCHES Prize in Germany in 2013, and the Israel Physical Society Prize for Young Scientist in 2017. He was recognized as “Highly-cited researcher” in 2019 and 2020. In addition, open positions for graduate students and postdocs are available in his group.
