Optical superlattices (Nonlinear Photonics) have been successfully applied to laser frequency conversion and nonlinear optics. In this talk, I will introduce the recent progress on the study of optical superlattices in quantum optics in our lab. The novel entangled two-photon pairs with unique time-frequency and space-momentum properties have been produced from the optical superlattices with the predesigned domain structures by quasi-phase-matched spontaneous parametric down-conversion. The progress exhibits the exciting perspectives of optical superlattices in exploring basic quantum mechanical effects and developing novel quantum devices.

Dr. Shining Zhu is a professor at School of Physics and a principal investigator at National Laboratory of Solid State Microstructures, Nanjing University, China. His current research is focused on the domain-engineered ferroelectric crystals (optical superlattice, quasi-phase-matched materials) and nonlinear optics, microstructure electromagnetic wave materials, ferroelectric physics and materials, quantum optics and photonic information and LD pumped all solid state laser etc. He has published more than 200 technical papers including publications in Science, Nature Materials, Nature Photonics and Phys. Rev. Lett. He is currently the dean of Physics School of Nanjing University. He was elected as the member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007.
