Solving strongly correlated problems in condensed matter physics with diagrammatic Monte Carlo simulations

Diagrammatic Monte Carlo simulations are a promising new tool to push the frontiers in obtaining controlled results for strongly correlated systems. In this talk, I will briefly sketch the method, discuss pros and cons, and show how the community was able to go beyond the state of the art in a number of different contexts such as the Hubbard model with spin imbalance possibly featuring a Fulde-Ferrell -Larking-Ovchinnikov phase, the Hubbard model with explicit SU(2) symmetry breaking, resonantly interacting fermi-polarons and polarons, and frustrated magnetism. I conclude by sketching current and future avenues that can be explored by resorting to this method.

Lode Pollet received his Ph.D from Universiteit Gent, Belgium in 2005, and did post-doctoral research in ETH Zurich, University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Harvard University. In 2011, he joined the University of Munich (LMU) and become a professor in the institute of theoretical physics. His research interest includes the Monte Carlo simulations, quantum many-body problems, Ultracold atoms, superuidity, supersolid Helium-4, large scale computations, disordered systems, quantum phase, transitions, statistical mechanics. Prof. Pollet has authored about 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and over 30 of them published in Physical review letter, Science, Nature. His h-index is 34 with a total number of citations more than 4000.
