So, you've discovered something extraordinary and you want to tell the world about it.  And you want to publish it in a Nature journal.  But which one should you choose?  Indeed, why has Nature spawned so many new titles? What is Nature Communications, and what is it trying to do that other Nature journal don't do already? What is Open Access and why should you care? In this talk I'll try to answer these and any other questions you have about getting published in a Nature journal. I'll also cover: what we look for in the papers that we consider for publication; the mechanics of how submissions are handled; how to decide if your paper could be for us; how to prepare a submission; and what to do when you think we (or our referees) have got a decision wrong. And, of course, what are we looking for in China?

Joerg joined Nature Publishing Group in 2005 as an editor for Nature Materials, where he handled a broad range of physics and materials science manuscripts, before moving to Nature Communications in October 2012 with responsibility for the physical sciences team. Following his PhD in semiconductor physics from Imperial College London, Joerg subsequently worked in postdoctoral positions at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey, and the University of Marburg in Germany. He also was a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo in 2010. Since April 2015 Joerg is the Executive Editor of Nature Communications, with responsibility for the journal as a whole.
