Molecular imaging is a leading force in a new era of personalized medicine where quantitative methods of engineering and systems sciences have a pivotal role in disease detection, diagnostics, and treatment. There are urgent needs to develop quantitative imaging methods and software tools in clinical applications. Such quantitative imaging may require the use of multiple imaging modalities that provide anatomical, functional, and molecular information of various diseases. This talk will illustrate the power of multimodality imaging and image-guided interventions (IGI) technology for cancer diagnosis and therapy. Deformable image registration, automatic image segmentation, computer assisted intervention techniques have been developed and validated for the management of cancer patients at Emory University. By combining multimodality imaging and multidimensional data to exploit our current knowledge of various diseases, this research is to have substantial positive implications for disease detection, diagnosis, and therapy.
Dr. Baowei Fei is a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Scholar and Director of Quantitative BioImaging Laboratory (www.feilab.org) at Emory University School of Medicine and Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Dr. Fei received his PhD and Master degrees from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Currently, Dr. Fei is an Associate Professor with Tenure in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences at Emory University, and in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at Emory University and Georgia Institute of Technology. Before he moved to the USA, Dr. Fei was enrolled in the Extraordinary Youth Program at Xi’an Jiaotong University and received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Biomedical Engineering. He also received his PhD degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University before he earned his secondary doctor degree in the USA.
